Sixty thousand tons of LNG reaching Pakistan

Islamabad- The National Assembly was informed today that the first shipment of 60 thousand tons of imported LNG, is reaching Pakistan tomorrow.

Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi told the House, while responding to a call attention notice that the imported LNG from Qatar will flow into the system on the 31st of this month.

The Minister said the LNG price agreement is still being negotiated, between the Qatar Gas and Pakistan State Oil. He assured the House that the LNG will be imported at the most competitive price and transparent manner. He said the gas price, whenever finalized will be shared with the Parliament and other appropriate forums. He said world class terminal has been constructed at a record time, to handle the imported LNG.

The Minister said the primary recipient of the imported LNG will be the power sector and it will provide an advantage of 300 million dollars, to the power sector as compared to the liquid fuel.

Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif told the House that the imported LNG will be provided to four IPPs and KAPCO, for generation of electricity. He was confident that the production of electricity through LNG will help reduce load-shedding in the summer season.

Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Pervaiz Rashid has said that a three pronged strategy of awareness, prevention and enforcement is being pursued to eradicate corruption from the country.

He told the National Assembly, during question hour today that National Accountability Bureau has been successful, not only in bringing the culprits to book, but also recovered billions of plundered money. He said the NAB has recovered 3880.47 million rupees and completed 869 inquiries since June 2013. He said the NAB also established prevention committees in order to develop doable recommendations for eradication of corruption. He said the authority is also engaged with different government and non-governmental organizations, to fight against the menace.

Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources Jam Kamal told the House that Pakistan and Iran are engaged in negotiating a workable implementation plan, for the Pakistan-Iran Gas Pipeline Project. He said that Pakistan is pursuing the project implementation through an alternate strategy with Chinese cooperation. The strategy encompasses completion of pipeline segment from Gwadar to Nawabshah, along with the construction of LNG terminal at Gwadar Port.

Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Pervaiz Rashid told the House that several laws are in the pipeline, including the establishment of a National Commission for the protection of child rights. He said the proposed bills envisage enhancement of the minimum age, for fixing the criminal responsibility.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad told the House that construction work on Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway, will start next month and completed in a span of two years at a cost of 44 billion rupees.
