Cops asked to remain servants, not rulers


BAHAWALPUR
A police high-up has advised the cops to consider themselves as public servants and not rulers, saying that 73 police stations of Bahawalpur Division will be computerised within two weeks to improve police performance.
Bahawalpur RPO Ehsan Sadiq added that FIR record of all police stations was being computerised throughout the range. “Delay in murder, rape and missing persons’ cases will not be tolerated and investigation will be conducted on scientific lines instead of traditional ways,” he elaborated.
He stressed the need for improvement in the police work, saying that thana culture should be changed by phasing in modern technology. “Provision of computers in all police stations of Bahawalpur Division is being ensured,” the RPO informed, adding that these steps would improve not only performance but also standard of work while police record could also be stored more safely.
RPO Ehsan Sadiq said that all station house officers had been directed to prepare the record of each and every criminal. He said that orders had been issued to lower subordination that delay in murder, rape and missing person’s cases will not be tolerated. These cases are given priority. Investigation Officers should use scientific methods during investigation instead of traditional system.
He said that police have the responsibility of providing security for the people thus it should realise that responsibility by doing investigation on merit and honesty with full professionalism. He directed that every officer use all of his skills in investigations. Investigation officers must use modern technology, interpreting the evidence and statements rightly and presenting it in the court in the manner prescribed, he said.
He stated that the reward system had been started to enhance the performance of the police officers and lower subordination. Cash awards and promotions will be awarded to the good performers whereas actions will be taken against the negligent ones.
He directed that due respect be given to general public. He said that Salam culture be adopted while dealing with the people. He said, “Today is the era of science and Technology so we should change the traditional police system and adopt new and modern system. He asked the police officers to become like eagle instead of sparrows. Only brave officers will remain part of the police department, he said.
