QUETTA - At least five cops, including station house officer of Rara Sham Police Station, were martyred when militants attacked a police check post in Mekhtar area of Loralai district, reported a private TV channel Thursday.
According to Levies officials, the militants opened indiscriminate fire at the check post and also hurled a hand grenade, which resulted in the death of four police constables and SHO Tahir Shah. The check post was also damaged and a police mobile was destroyed during the attack.
Following the attack, additional contingents of security personnel reached the site and cordoned off the area. However, the attackers managed to flee from the scene and disappeared in the nearby mountains. Bodies of the slain police officials were shifted to a nearby hospital. The situation turned tense in the area following the attack.
No militant group has so far claimed responsibility of the attack. Seven Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were killed when some militants had stormed a security check post a couple of months ago in the same area.
