NAB in a countrywide op to eliminate corruption

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry said on Thursday that corruption had turned into a cancer and the bureau had launched a country-wide accountability drive to clear the society of this menace.
Addressing a gathering of people from different walks of life here at Multan Arts Council after inaugurating NAB Regional Office in Multan, he added that the circle of anti-corruption drive was being expanded up to local government level.
He said that NAB worked on merit on the basis of evidence without accepting any pressure. He said that NAB worked without any pressure and the gamut of accountability was being expanded to all nook and corners of the country to uproot the menace of corruption. He said that no society could make progress until corruption was eliminated from its ranks. He was of the opinion that like terrorism, sectarianism, health and education issues, corruption also emptied the foundations of the country.
He hoped that the regional bureau of NAB in Multan would help the residents of Multan, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan division fight against corruption. He said that NAB utilized all out resources to clear the society of corruption. He said that the NAB had earlier established another regional bureau in Sukkhur which had started functioning.
He said that the NAB tried to create awareness in the society against corruption before launching action. “If anyone still commits corruption, we’ll deal with him with iron hand,” he warned. He said that youth could play a key role in elimination of corruption from the society and the NAB launched a new initiative titled Character Building Society with youngsters on board.
Speaking on the occasion, DG NAB Multan Region Tariq Mehmood Nadeem said that NAB was an independent institution which worked without any political intervention or pressure.
He added that transparent investigation and elimination of corruption stood at the top of the priority of the NAB. He revealed that 15 societies had been constituted in educational institutions of Multan and Bahawalpur under Character Building Society and the members of these societies played key role in elimination of corruption.
Senior officers of district administration and police were also present on this occasion.
